Bobby Robson Memorial Park; Phase 1 complete |
| Posted by neil (neil) on Mar 21 2011 |
The design itself uses greenspace and sandstone walls to create a space orientated between the views of St James and Chinatown gate, especially as one approaches from the Gallowgate crossing point. Grass slopes between the walls create varied height seating and lead the eye to the main sculpture area - where five sculptures will be uplit and backed by planting and the large birch trees. A path leads through allowing people to get a closer look and passing some ornamental cherry trees, a favourite species of the Bobby Robson family.
We hope that in time this park will become a strong visual landmark and will be well used during summer. Newcastle City Council is responsible for phase 2, the art works and the lighting.
