Sunniside Public Realm |

Working with three major artists RLD has designed the public realm to the west of Sunniside Gardens, Sunderland. This includes St Thomas Street, High Street West, Norfolk Street and West Sunniside.
The design concept by Kapok was to create a series of focused design elements around the area. These 'pressure points' would be a showcase for landscape, seating, lighting and sound art.
The streets were also modelled on those of Kensington, where almost all of the street clutter (signs, bollards, railings) are removed and the street becomes linear once again. We have designed the streets to have a strong linear quality, with recognisable crossing points, seating spaces and street art.
